Transport Services
At SPRODETA Agribusiness Limited, transport is not merely a support function, it is the backbone of our agribusiness model. Our work with smallholder farmers in Mzimba and Rumphi districts has shown that one of the greatest barriers to commercialisation is the lack of reliable, affordable, and coordinated transport. Many farmers live in hilly, remote communities where roads are poor, distances to markets are long, and private transport is either too costly or unavailable. SPRODETA addresses this barrier by investing in a transport and logistics system that integrates farmers into functional value chains, from production to processing and distribution.
Our transport services operate as an end-to-end solution supporting efficient commodity flow. Once harvested, commodities such as maize, rice, soybeans, groundnuts, beans, poultry, and goats are collected from households through coordination with farmer clubs and cooperatives. Produce is then moved to aggregation points and transported to our Agribusiness Centre in Enc’ongoleni for processing, packaging, and quality assurance. This coordinated system reduces post-harvest losses, improves product quality, and ensures timely delivery to buyers in markets including Mzuzu, Lilongwe, and Blantyre.
Reliable transport is essential to SPRODETA’s role as an off-taker. By guaranteeing collection of commodities, we build farmer trust and eliminate uncertainties around market access. Farmers no longer risk spoilage, exploitation by middlemen, or inflated transport costs. Instead, they benefit from a predictable, farmer-centered system that ensures commodities reach the right place, at the right time, and in good condition. This efficiency underpins our model of increasing rural incomes, improving livelihood resilience, and enabling competitive participation in the agricultural economy.
Beyond commodity transport, SPRODETA offers vehicle hire services to meet the needs of businesses, NGOs, community organizations, and individuals. Whether for logistics, field operations, equipment delivery, agricultural activities, or events, our fleet provides reliable, well-maintained vehicles at affordable rates. Managed by experienced personnel, the service strengthens our operational sustainability while filling a market gap in communities with limited vehicle hire options.
Another complementary service is public address (PA) system hire, providing high-quality sound systems for public meetings, trainings, awareness campaigns, field days, weddings, corporate events, and community gatherings. Many organizations and local leaders lack reliable PA systems, and SPRODETA’s service facilitates communication, mobilization, and outreach while contributing to income generation.
Our logistics network also supports the distribution of processed products. From the Agribusiness Centre, products such as maize flour from our 10-ton-per-day milling plant, packaged rice, beans, groundnuts, and soy products are delivered to wholesalers, retail shops, supermarkets, hotels, and individuals. Reliable transport maintains safety, freshness, and quality, enhancing SPRODETA’s brand visibility, market reach, and competitiveness.
As SPRODETA expands into all five northern districts and selected central region districts, transport becomes increasingly critical. Our system is designed to accommodate higher production volumes and serve a projected one million farmers by 2030. Efficient inbound and outbound logistics reduce operational costs, streamline supply chains, and reinforce our position as a leading agribusiness company in Malawi.
Ultimately, SPRODETA’s transport services go beyond moving goods, they create market linkages, reduce inefficiencies, enhance farmer profitability, and drive rural economic development. By integrating commodity transport, vehicle hire, PA system hire, and product distribution, SPRODETA ensures smallholder farmers are not isolated by geography but fully connected to profitable, high-value markets. Our transport and logistics system is therefore central to building resilient, thriving rural communities and strengthening agricultural value chains across Northern Malawi.
